Our country, from Coast to Coast has supported and helped resettle Syrian Refugees from the ravages of Civil War and conflict.  Right here on the Saanich Peninsula the RAPID 2 Refugee Committee, with the assistance of our local community churches including Central Saanich United Church; and the Anglican Diocese, have resettled two families in the past 5 years.  This is a brief update about our Syrian Refugee Family who have been living in our community now for just over 3 years.

After leaving everything behind, the basics to sustain their new lives in Canada have been met:  food, clothing, healthcare and a place to live. The family wishes to thank Central Saanich United Church again with the kind donations to assist with Dental Care and Winter Clothing for the family at the beginning of their settlement in their new country and culture.

As one can imagine, language and employment have been the biggest hurdle in their settlement.  We can be proud as members of Central Saanich United Church: parents are both attending ICA (International Cultural Association) and Camosun College to continue English studies.  They are both working at jobs in our community.  The five children are thriving in our local Saanich #63 School District in Elementary, Middle and Secondary Schools.

Their oldest child is attending the local high school and in Grade 11. She is enrolled in strong Academic courses this semester:  Precalculus mathematics and Chemistry. She requires a Tutor to assist with the challenging Precalculus Mathematics course.  After considerable searching, an excellent local Tutor has been found for her.

If anyone would like to make a donation to assist with the Tutoring fees for her Mathematics course, it would be kindly appreciated.
