Almost a year ago on June 27,2021, Central Saanich United Church became an Affirming Community of Faith! To be Affirming means that we are public, intentional, and explicit in our commitment to inclusion and justice for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We will celebrate Pride Sunday this year in the context of Worship on June 26th.
Here is some information if you are attending the Pride Parade on June 26th in Victoria. This year’s parade will feature a new route. The parade will marshal in Victoria West starting at 10 am, before crossing over the Johnson Street bridge into downtown. The parade will proceed southeast on Wharf Street, turn right onto Government Street and right onto Belleville Street. The parade will commence at 11:00 am. The United Church on South Vancouver Island is registered to be in the parade so you may walk the parade route by joining the various United Church communities of faith at the Marshalling area (details for the Marshalling area to follow – notice will be sent out when that information is available) This year’s parade, following a 2-year hiatus due to COVID-19, promises to be bigger than ever, featuring over 100 colourful entries, thousands of marchers and 40,000+ spectators demonstrating their Pride and solidarity with 2SLGBTQQA+ communities.
If you are intending to go to the Parade, and will be car pooling, feel free to use the church parking lot to park your car. I will offer parade goers a prayer in the parking lot to bless you on your way at 8:45 am. Let’s celebrate Pride on June 26th!!!
